Minnesota’s mining industry is both a source of economic opportunity and a growing climate and environmental concern. Mineral reserves sit within the Treaty territory for some of the state's 11 sovereign tribal nations as well as at the headwaters of water and wilderness resources such as the Boundary Waters, Lake Superior, and the Mississippi River. The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and the Minnesota Center for Environmental Advocacy share community perspectives and concerns.
The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), state agencies with the authority to review and make decisions about the mining industry, will explain the leasing, permitting, and environmental review processes when there are proposals for new or expanded mining projects in Minnesota.
This session will highlight how the philanthropic sector has responded to Operation Metro Surge over the past several months including pathways for longer-term recovery efforts.
This session will provide a high-level overview of proposed legislation aimed at providing relief and stabilizing communities and businesses impacted by federal enforcement activities.
