Join MCF’s Public Policy Committee and Disaster Philanthropy Working Group for a half-day event exploring Minnesota’s disaster landscape, philanthropic engagement with disasters, and disaster-related public policy opportunities. This event will feature a panel of disaster experts working across the disaster ecosystem who will help us understand Minnesota’s disaster response and recovery landscape, including its strengths and challenges as well as how it is changing due to various external factors such as incoming federal funds, lessons from COVID, etc. Then, a panel of funders will explore how philanthropy can and has been an important player in the disaster response ecosystem. After lunch, MCF members will debrief the two morning panels and consider how MCF and its members may want to engage in the disaster ecosystem in terms of public policy, programming, or other activities in the future.

Panelists include:

  • Kristi Rollwagen, Director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management at the Minnesota Department of Public Safety
  • Ryc Lyden, President of Minnesota Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster
  • Erin Coryell, Program Officer at Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies
  • Nancy Fasching, Vice President for Community Impact at Southwest Initiative Foundation
  • Kurtis Fondrick, Emergency Manager and Threat Analyst, Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community
  • Anna Wasecha, President of the West Central Initiative Foundation

This is a joint meeting of MCF’s public policy committee and MCF’s Disaster Philanthropy Working Group. All MCF members are welcome to attend.

Lunch is included as a part of this event. Please update your online MCF profile with any dietary restrictions or notify the MCF staff person listed below.
