Resources for Action
Grantmakers are valuable resources for elected officials.
As a grantmaker, you do research and publish reports policymakers can use to help shape policies. You gain a perspective on issues and of the community through your relationships with grantees. You are also constituents whose ideas matter, and you are best at explaining what it takes to do your work as a grantmaker.
Understanding Advocacy
MCF offers programs to help grantmakers learn how public policy affects your grantmaking priorities and how to communicate with elected officials in strategic and effective ways. We curate resources and tools in MCF’s resource library to deepen your understanding of advocacy and to help you make the case for public policy investments and action. We also recommend Bolder Advocacy and their resources for grantmakers.
Working with Partners
MCF is your partner in advocacy and public policy. We work through coalitions, partnerships, and direct lobbying to represent the interests of Minnesota grantmakers. We need you in order to do our job. Your participation in public policy programs, issue-specific networks, and MCF's Government Relations and Public Policy Committee shape MCF’s policy priorities. We also work with other partners who help us deepen our understanding and advance issues that are part of MCF's Advocacy Agenda.
Know Who Represents You
The most important thing you can do to help us effectively represent Minnesota grantmakers is know who represents you. Once you know who represents you in Congress and the State Legislature in Saint Paul, please enter that information into your MCF member profile. If you are ready to meet with your elected official on a topic of importance to your work and need some advice or assistance, call us!
