A Conversation between McKnight President Tonya Allen and Christo Brand, author of Doing Life with Mandela: My Prisoner, My Friend

Nelson Mandela once said, “It always seems impossible until it’s done.” In the aftermath of a divisive U.S. presidential election, coming together across divides may seem like an impossible feat. However, Mandela in his life, taught us the power of fighting for justice for all, while also being open to forgiveness, healing, and creating unlikely bonds.

Join us for an inspiring and timely conversation with McKnight President Tonya Allen and Christo Brand, who was Nelson Mandela's prison guard and later became his close friend. Christo Brand's unique relationship with Nelson Mandela serves as a powerful example of how understanding and friendship can emerge from the most unexpected places.

Through their conversation, Tonya Allen and Christo Brand will delve into the lessons we can learn from Mandela's life and actions. Mandela's journey teaches us about resilience, and the ability to navigate a complex world with grace and determination.

This event, co-hosted by the McKnight Foundation and Minnesota Council on Foundations, will be a thought-provoking discussion on how we can apply these principles in our own lives, professions, and communities. Join us on January 21 at 3:30 PM to celebrate the enduring legacy of Nelson Mandela and the transformative power of human connection. A reception will take place from 4:45 to 5:45 PM.
