The United States is facing an existential crisis: 64% of Americans agree democracy is in crisis and at risk of failing. To protect our democracy, philanthropy must succeed not only in gathering new funds for organizations to meet their needs, but also in adding more donors to the ecosystem to create and sustain a more robust and durable democracy donor community. Even in Minnesota, where we’re known for our high levels of civic participation, the number of funders in this area is small.

The Building for Democracy Education Fund (BFDEF) is a collaborative campaign to develop a shared set of priorities to fund, engage new funders, and expand funding for the pro-democracy and non-partisan civic engagement field. Join MCF to learn more about the fund, the national movement to invest in democracy, and how to get involved. BFDEF leaders and local organizations will share success stories demonstrating the impact of a coordinated funding strategy. We will also have ample time for member discussion with speakers. This briefing is an opportunity for both experienced and new grantmakers interested in supporting democracy in 2024 and beyond.

Speaker information coming soon! Log-in details will be provided in your confirmation email. For additional information, please reach out to May Yang, myang@mcf.org.
