Impact Investing Network Debate: Is ESG Making the World Better?

During our November impact investing meeting, we’ll focus on ESG – environmental, social and governance investing criteria. Over the last decade, ESG investing criteria have risen in importance alongside the traditional risk analysis. Advocates say ESG investing rewards companies that strive to make the world a better place. Detractors say companies are “greenwashing” and advancing political ideologies. Join the conversation to understand the issues, clear the rhetoric and focus on the ideas that matter to you and your foundation. The discussion will begin with an Oxford-style debate of the pros and cons of the question, Is ESG making the world better? Significant time will be dedicated to an open discussion for participants to ask questions, share your experiences, and learn together.

Impact Investing Network conversations are hosted by our co-chairs, Nikki Foster, Program Officer, Northwest Area Foundation and Daniel Lemm, Chief Financial Officer, Blandin Foundation along with Susan Hammel, CFA, MCF’s Executive in Residence for Impact Investing. Impact Investing Network meetings are opportunities for all MCF members to come together to learn about and engage in discussion on topics related to impact investing.
