About

The Transforming Philanthropy: Learning Community of Practice (adapted from Transforming White Privilege curriculum), is an intensive blended learning experience designed to help current and emerging leaders within Minnesota's philanthropic sector to better identify and productively address white privilege and its consequences in their many different spheres of influence.

Registrants will gain access to a rich self-paced curriculum which is comprised of 20 modules. Each module has a mix of videos, learning articles, and self-reflection activities. By taking your time, pacing your learning, and completing the full curriculum, you will gain new perspectives about white privilege in the context of philanthropy. Depending on your speed, the full curriculum could take 6 – 8 hours to complete.

Participants will learn how to

  • Be more aware of some specific ways white privilege is operating “below the radar” in work, relationships and communities.
  • Leverage and instigate change through your spheres of influence.
  • Identify entry points for systemic changes you might not have seen before and develop tools to act on them.
  • Be more connected with your peers who can help support you in your on-going work in this area.
  • Feel more confident when talking about racial equity and white privilege (using whatever terms make sense for your purpose and audience).
  • Make a compelling case for why the discomfort of addressing white privilege is worth it.
  • Access tools, such as strategic questioning, in order to create more equitable outcomes.

Who this experience is ideal for

Philanthropic professionals in all roles in institutional philanthropy/grantmaking foundations or intermediaries. This also ideal for those with an intermediate level understanding around the topics of equity, white supremacy, and anti-blackness. If the cost is a barrier to participation, please contact Susie Brown to access a reduced rate made possible by the support of your peers.

Registration is open to MCF members and other individuals working in Minnesota's philanthropic sector.
