How are philanthropic organizations weighing risks and opportunities for funding post-secondary scholarships in today’s environment? Given the litigation that is impacting philanthropy including Fearless Fund and other ongoing federal litigation, our presenters will share key considerations for grantmakers who fund scholarship programs. The conversation will cover both legal and values-based decisions that funders need to make.

The session will be divided into two segments. The first 60 minutes will be recorded and will offer an overview of the themes and considerations. This segment will include time for Q&A with the presenters. The final 30 minutes will not be recorded and will offer an optional open space for peer conversations where you can share your own ideas, ask others how they are wrestling with the issues, and hear what’s working in other grantmaking institutions. Stay for the whole 90 minutes, or join for part of the time, based on your availability and interest.

Presenters:

  • Liz Borer, General Counsel, Margaret A. Cargill Philanthropies
  • Angela Fogt, Counsel, Faegre Drinker
  • Carrie Ryan Gallia, Senior Associate General Counsel, Office of the General Counsel, University of Minnesota
  • Joel Luedtke, Program Director, Jay and Rose Phillips Family Foundation of Minnesota
