This session will be presented by Nexus Community Partners’ ROOT (Reclaiming Our Own Time)’s co-directors, Rosalva Mujwid Hernandez and Sook Jin Ong.

We believe everyone deserves joyful, abundant lives filled with the rest our bodies, minds, and spirits need—rest is a birthright for all, not just the privileged. Our work looks at what it takes to lean into an ecosystem approach that supports Black, Indigenous, and People of Color in embracing rest and restoration as essential to justice work. This initiative challenges dominant narratives around rest, and invites exploration of how our rest practices can integrate into movement work. We view personal rest as interconnected with collective healing; as we address individual trauma, we also heal collective trauma. This belief inspires our community frameworks, commitments, and investments.

In this session, you will learn how we can collectively reshape rest narratives by resourcing up our community’s ability to reclaim their own time to rest, their own access and value of their labor and time, and resourcing those who are providing the services/knowledge for community to heal. This session is geared towards grantmakers considering new ways to support communities of color, grantmakers interested in wellness, wellbeing, integrated health, social determinants of health, racial justice, and/or innovation.

Log-in details will be provided in your confirmation email. For additional information, please reach out to Khin Oo, [email protected].
