About Susie: When she isn’t working, you can often find Susie in the St. Croix Valley where she grew up, and where she and her family enjoy many outdoor activities, including sailing and skiing. Susie’s combined love of downhill skiing and travel has led the Brown family to explore snowy mountains throughout the world. She also loves to cook, is an avid reader, and is a Myers-Briggs ENTP. Susie joined MCF in April of 2019 and resides in St. Paul with her husband and daughter.

Resume Snippets: Susie has spent her career in the nonprofit sector, beginning at Planned Parenthood of Connecticut and Planned Parenthood of New England, where she served as Public Affairs Director. After relocating to the Twin Cities, Ms. Brown acted as Public Policy Director at The Family Partnership before becoming Executive Director for Child Care Works, an organization dedicated to improving Minnesota’s child care system. She then held the role of Public Policy Director at the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits from 2010 to 2016.  During that time, Ms. Brown served on the MCF Public Policy Committee and the Minnesota Office of Grant Management.

An active community member, she now serves on the Community Advisory Council of the Greater Twin Cities United Way and on the boards of MACC: Metropolitan Alliance of Connected Communities and GrantAdvisor.  She also has participated actively on various committees of the National Association of Bar Executives and the Conference of Metropolitan Bar Associations.

She holds a BA degree in international affairs from Lewis and Clark College and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Vermont where she earned the Frank Smallwood Student award.  She was a Policy Fellow at the Humphrey Institute in 2006. 

She is an adjunct faculty member at Hamline University where she teaches courses in nonprofit management and governance.
