Community Foundation Dues
Community foundation members, for the purposes of dues calculations, are organizations that focus their work on a specific geography, affinity group or interest area. Community foundation grantmaking can vary widely year-to-year, depending on annual ability to raise funds, giving choices of donor advisors, opportunities for large one-time gifts, availability of government “pass through” funds and more. Therefore, MCF’s community foundation dues are assessed based on management expenses, which excludes program service and fundraising expenses. This calculation offers more stable and predictable dues amount, and it does not penalize a foundation for inordinate fundraising success in a given year.
Community foundations self-report the Management and General Expenses portion of their Total Functional Expenses from their most recent completed fiscal year; this is often equivalent to Part IX, Line 25, Column C on completed 990 forms.

Community Affiliate Membership Process
Community affiliates are unincorporated funds or small community foundations managed by a larger entity, usually a community foundation or grantmaking public charity. The community affiliates automatically receive MCF membership through their affiliation with the MCF member that hosts and supports them.
This does not include private foundations that contract for client services with other MCF members — these foundations join as independent MCF members.
