Philanthropy and Public Trust Task Force

Minnesota’s philanthropic community finds itself in a defining moment. All that has happened this year has laid bare the inequities that exist in our communities. Returning to the way things used to be is not a viable option. Before us is an opportunity to ensure that philanthropy in Minnesota progresses toward just and ethical practice. Tomorrow is being shaped today and we must get it right.

The Minnesota Council on Foundations is convening a Philanthropy and Public Trust Task Force which will rewrite the Preamble and the Principles for Grantmakers (see PDF, page 1) as well as offering ideas for updating the Practice Options for Philanthropic Organizations (see PDF, pages 6 – 20). The Task Force will be comprised of a dozen members with representatives from both the philanthropic and nonprofit sectors.  Members of the task force will commit to six virtual meetings. Outside of these meetings there will be minimal work.

Meeting Dates:

10/30 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

11/20 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

12/18 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

1/27 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.

2/24 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.

3/31 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

If you are interested in participating in this task force, please send an email to Josh Vang (jvang@mcf.org) and tell us about your interest in rewriting the Principles for Grantmakers (2-3 sentences). Please send your email by Friday, October 2.
