Year-End Letter from MCF's Interim President

By Peg Birk, MCF Interim President

On behalf of the board of directors and the staff of the Minnesota Council on Foundations, we send you greetings with gratitude for the work that you do and for your MCF membership!

It has been my honor and pleasure to serve as the interim president at MCF since early September. As we look ahead to the new year, I want to share a few things that we are excited about as we lean into 2019.

Interim leadership transitions are a time for an organization to take a pause to refresh, refocus and recalibrate. At MCF, with the support of our board of directors, the staff has been working on improving internal processes and procedures that will ultimately create enhanced member services.

One in particular, is how MCF processes annual dues. It has been a clunky multiple step process that has spanned a twelve month period, with a significant amount of dues coming in the last quarter of the year. Over time, we plan to make the necessary electronic system changes to make it a one step process.

We will start the 2019 MCF membership campaign in January.  You will see a few changes.  First, you will get an easy-to-use PDF application form -- fillable!  Second, we are asking that you complete the form immediately to let us know that you are renewing your MCF membership in 2019 at the same time that you will be taking full advantage of MCF's programming and member benefits.  Membership renewal forms will be due by February 28, 2019.  Finally, membership renewal payments will be due by June 30, 2019. As a small nonprofit on a tight budget, prompt renewal and payment of dues allows us to plan for and meet member needs more effectively.

On a larger scale, we are laying the building blocks for the next MCF President to hit the ground running in early spring. The MCF search committee has retained the search firm of Ballinger | Leafblad to find the right person to meet the needs of MCF at this moment in time and into the future.

We are also excited about our Annual Conference, Disruption to Transformation: Building Resilience in Philanthropy, on January 17-18. If you have not registered yet, you can register at www.mcf.org/conference2019.

We are grateful for your membership and involvement in MCF.
