Xp Lee Joins MCF as Program Manager for Policy and Special Projects

Tuesday, June 18, 2019

Xiongpao “Xp” Lee is joining the Minnesota Council on Foundations as program manager for policy and special projects. Among Xp’s core responsibilities will be providing leadership for MCF members to help prepare Minnesota for the 2020 Census, and to coordinate the work of the Minnesota Census Mobilization Partnership.

Xp comes to MCF with experience working on the 2020 Census. He is a member of the network that co-created, along with people from communities that are historically undercounted by the census, the Minnesota Census Mobilization Partnership’s 2020 Census Communication and Mobilization Plan. This plan was developed with support by MCF members. Xp is also a leader of the Hmong American Census Network. He will be leaving his position with the City of Brooklyn Park as its community liaison to join MCF.

On April 1st, an event was held at the State Capitol marking the one-year countdown to Census Day 2020. Leaders and community members from all over the state attended the event, including Xp. At that event, Xp said, “Every Minnesotan needs to know the census is our tool; the tool we can use to declare “#WeCount” -- that we all count in Minnesota -- no matter our skin color, our income, our age, our ability, our language, or our citizenship status.”

Xp will start working at MCF on July 8. He will join MCF’s public policy team along with Bob Tracy, director of public policy and Katina Mortensen, program manager. In thinking about his new role at MCF, Xp stated, “As MCF's lead staff on the census, I will work with allies to share the message far and wide that this is not the government’s census, this is our census.”
