The New London-Spicer Area Fund (NLSAF) announces investments totaling $14,000 in their recent grant round. NLSAF awarded grants to eight local programs in the Northern Kandiyohi County area that support their focus areas of arts, healthy communities and lifestyles, environment, large-scale and sustainable initiatives, and special collaborations. “Our organization is pleased to support projects and programs that continue to strengthen Northern Kandiyohi and benefit our neighbors” says NLSAF board chair, Clark Vollan.
The amounts awarded and program descriptions are as follows:
- $3,500 to the City of New London Fire Department to equip new firefighters with structural firefighting personal protective equipment;
- $2,000 to support musical performances and artistic during for the Sibley State Park Centennial Celebration;
- $2,000 to assist in the addition of removable side curtains to expand capacity for the Prairie Woods Environmental Learning Center Pavilion;
- $2,000 to Model Citizen, Inc. to assist in creating Cooperation Prairie - Cooperative Incubator in surveying the Northern Kandiyohi county;
- $1,500 to BIO Girls, Inc. to establish a mentorship program for adolescent girls that combines life-skill lessons, mentoring and physical activity with a mission of improving self-esteem;
- $1,000 to help replace exterior doors and windows for the Scout Hut of the New London Boy Scout Troop #228;
- $1,000 to the New London Spicer Area Schools to support the arts endowment and help fund arts programs for all students, pre-kindergarten through 12th grade;
- $1,000 to Crow River Players, Inc. for the Revival of the Rialto Theater project.
The New London-Spicer Area Fund is a citizen-driven and professionally managed ongoing resource that enables individuals to support advancements in the community serving the 12 northern townships of Kandiyohi County: Arctander, Burbank, Colfax, Dovre, Green Lake, Harrison, Irving, Lake Andrew, Mamre, New London, Norway Lake and Roseville.
