MCF Statement on the Minneapolis ICE Killings

Minnesota is grieving. Renee Good and Alex Pretti are dead. Our immigrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking neighbors are afraid. So are many of our staff, members, and their families.

MCF exists to connect, strengthen, and mobilize Minnesota philanthropy for collective good. In moments like this, our mission is not abstract — it is urgent. The strength of our philanthropic community has always been our ability to come together: to share information, to pool resources, to act collectively when our neighbors need us most, and to cultivate a Minnesota where all feel safe. That is what this moment demands.

We are activating the tools we have. The Immigrant Rapid Response Fund and MCF’s Rapid Response Network are available to members ready to act. We encourage funders to join these collective efforts — because what we do together will always be greater than what any one of us can do alone.

To our members: stay connected. Show up for each other and for the communities we serve.

In memory of Alex Pretti, our office will be closed Friday, January 30, and we are evaluating changes to our annual conference. When our communities are under threat, we feel it too.
