Minnesota's disaster assistance contingency fund is critical to making it possible for the state to act quickly when disaster strikes. The fund is currently experiencing a shortfall, and the Minnesota Senate Committee on Judiciary and Public Safety Finance and Policy is holding a hearing today to fix the shortfall by transferring $2.4 million from the general fund into the fund.
MCF and a group of nine community foundations submitted a letter to the committee affirming MCF’s support for the Disaster Assistance Contingency Fund and the important role it plays in providing aid to local communities after a disaster in a predictable and timely way that allows the independent sector to effectively partner with government. MCF supports development of a stronger state disaster response system. See letter as an attachment below.
