Iterating on the Ron McKinley Philanthropy Fellowship: What’s the 2.0?

Friday, August 18, 2017

We are quickly approaching five years of the Ron McKinley Philanthropy Fellowship. We know from the many focus groups and interviews that the Fellowship has impacted MCF, host foundations, managing supervisors and fellows in varied ways. In light of our commitment to continuous improvement and our strategic future focus, we see an opportunity to reimagine the current program in light of what has worked well, what could work even better, and how the field has changed over the past 5 years.

No Fall 2017 Selection Process

With this design process underway, we’ve made the strategic decision to not lead a recruitment and selection process for new Fellows in Fall 2017. We remain committed to ensuring a strong experience for all current Fellows through the extent of their Fellowship term, but plan to wait on making new 3-year commitments until we’ve gone through this design process.

Design Process

In addition to leading design session days for those who have touched the program most closely - current fellows, fellowship alumni and fellowship supervisors and site leads – we’d like to invite any interested members to join MCF’s program and conference committee for a 90 minute feedback and idea generation session on September 12 from 8:30 – 10 am at the MCF Office.  This session will be facilitated by the talented team behind Imagine | Deliver.

It’s our hope that by following a collaborative process that elevates brilliant perspectives, we can imagine something that continues to transform and expand the spirit of philanthropy in Minnesota.

We’re opening the fellowship box and revisiting big questions through this process such as: How can MCF best support our members in creating inclusive workplaces to hire and retain more diversity in the field? What does it look like to create a diverse talent pipeline into the field?

We’re looking at examples of creative leadership development and imagining what that would look like here in Minnesota philanthropy.

We’d love to have your great thinking along with us in this process. Please consider joining us on September 12. If you can’t join us during that time, but have ideas about the questions we’ve posed above, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Leah Lundquist at
