Monday, July 30, 2018

The Catholic Community Foundation of Minnesota (CCF) welcomes Christopher Nelson as its new Vice President of Development and Donor Engagement. Nelson will oversee a team of development professionals tasked with aiding institutions and individual donors to ensure their investments and donations align with their faith and accomplish their immediate and perpetual goals.

“Chris brings a unique combination of fundraising, legal expertise, extensive work with Catholic institutions, and importantly, a shared passion for our mission,” says said CCF President Anne Cullen Miller. “His enthusiasm for making meaningful, purposeful use of his professional experience and education is inspiring.”

Nelson joins the Foundation after 11 years in private practice with Dunlap & Seeger where he represented and provided legal counsel to multiple Roman Catholic dioceses, parishes, foundations, schools and nonprofits on planned giving, major gifts, endowments, annual giving, and fundraising.

During that time, he also served on the board of the Catholic Foundation of Southern Minnesota where he had the opportunity to partner on a variety of projects with Anne Cullen Miller. “I was immediately struck not just by Anne’s achievements but her integrity and total commitment to transparency, accountability, and best practices,” says Nelson. “I think she recognized in me an equal passion for excellence in Catholic philanthropy.”

Nelson has a J.D. from the University of Saint Thomas School of Law where he served as Editor in Chief of the Law Review.  Nelson interned with the Judge Advocate General program at the United States Military Academy at West Point and clerked for the Minnesota Justice Foundation’s Refugee and Immigrant Program before joining Dunlap & Seeger.
