Blandin Foundation Awards $3.6 Million in Grants

The Blandin Foundation has announced sixty-seven grants totaling $3.6 million to help strengthen rural communities in northern Minnesota.

Approved by the foundation's trustees during their summer meeting, the awards include support for lifelong learning, economic development, and wrap-around services in the Grand Rapids and Itasca areas. Recipients include the Arrowhead Economic Opportunity Agency, which was awarded $391,185 to continue its Adult Scholarship Program for adult learners; Invest Early, which received $2.1 million to continue providing wrap-around services for the region's earliest learners; and the Area Partnership for Economic Expansion, which was awarded $45,000 in support of its efforts to drive sustainable job growth and economic activity in the Itasca area and across northeast Minnesota.

Grants also were awarded to the City of Grand Rapids, which received $200,000 in support of construction of a multiuse outdoor recreation facility; $5,000 to the Grand Rapids Community Foundation in support of its Mobility Mania project; and $10,000 to the Northland Family Service Center to implement an evaluation of an early-childhood program.
