Special Initiatives: Mobilize

Special Initiatives provide sector-wide opportunities for MCF members and non-members to take collective action. Activities include pursuing a joint project, aligning funding, planning a large convening, advocating for a specific public policy change, etc. Special initiatives reflect some of MCF’s current priorities.

Integrated Capital Recovery Program encourages foundations to provide loans, PRIs and other types of patient capital to Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs) to get resources flowing to small businesses and nonprofits. The program gives a priority to supporting small businesses and nonprofits led by women, people from Black, Indigenous, or People of Color (BIPOC) communities, community members who identify as LGBTQ or disabled, and people from rural communities. Learn more online.

Minnesota Census Mobilization Partnership is a cross-sector collaboration of organizations and individuals working together to advocate for policies and resources and engage Minnesotans to achieve the goal of fully inclusive, honest and accurate 2020 Census in Minnesota. Learn more online.

Minnesota Disaster Recovery Fund (MDRF) supports community needs as a direct result of the coronavirus pandemic. The MDRF funds both short and long-term needs that arise within communities, due to coronavirus or future disasters that occur within the state of Minnesota. Funds are raised through philanthropic entities. Learn more online.

Minnesota Impact Investing Initiative (MI3) is a collaborative focused on a fixed income bond fund (part of RBC Global Access Management’s Community Access Capital) to support affordable housing and small business projects throughout Minnesota. As of 2020, MI3 has surpassed $40 million invested. Learn more online.
