The Black Collective Foundation MN (The Collective) is a growing community foundation that advances the genius of Black-led change through bold investments and community, philanthropic, and business partnerships. The Collective seeks a strategic and innovative leader with experience in program development and execution to work in partnership with the Co-Founder & President and the organization at large in carrying the Foundation to the next level of impact.

The Black Collective Foundation MN is Minnesota's first Black community foundation using philanthropy as a tool to fuel a thriving ecosystem of Black-led change.  Together, we are advancing the genius of Black-led change and building a community where all Black people are holistically well, living in dignity and prosperity.

We resource organizations, visionaries, community builders, groups, social impact businesses, faith leaders, artists, and communities who advance the power, interests, and well-being of Black communities, often benefiting all people. We do this creatively and abundantly using a participatory process to resource community-centered and culturally-powered solutions through participatory, racial justice philanthropy

Can You Help Lead The Collective into the Future? 

We are seeking a strategic leader who can play a key role in designing and implementing program functions in our organization. The successful candidate will help strengthen existing programs while developing a long term vision in regards to program strategy, grantmaking, and the ability to build strong stakeholder and community engagement.  

This is a full-time, hybrid position with in-person meetings and engagementsThe Black Collective Foundation MN is an organization with a statewide focus, community context is an integral aspect of creating effective strategies to achieve the Foundation’s mission. As such, the incumbent to this position must reside within the state of Minnesota and within commutable distance to regular meetings located within the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. 

The Sr. Director of Impact will work closely with the Co-Founder & President to implement and lead key program strategy and project plans. Deliverables will include:

Program Development & Management

 

  • Shape and Manage Program Strategy and Plans: Develop a program strategy rooted in research, practice, and evaluation that advances objectives with defined outcomes and both short- and long-term goals. Create and manage a comprehensive project plan that includes deliverables, roles, dates, budget, and resource needs. Identify, recommend, and procure the necessary capacity to implement program deliverables, and oversee progress, making adjustments as needed to maintain impact and momentum.
  • Develop and Present Progress Reports: Regularly develop and present progress reports to the Co-Founder & President, Leadership Committee members, and other stakeholders to ensure transparency and alignment.
  • Strengthen Key Programming and Operationalize Functions: Develop and implement strategies to enhance key programs such as the Community Builders Practice, Black-led Change Fellowship, and Ecosystem gatherings. This includes evaluating past programming, incorporating learnings, managing scheduling and communications, overseeing content and materials, and providing coaching and support. Lead efforts to operationalize all program functions, including recommending and managing budgets, monitoring financial data, ensuring funder deliverables, and maintaining relevant policies and procedures.

 

Participatory Grantmaking & Grants Management 

 

  • Lead The Collective’s participatory grantmaking process, including training on philanthropy, grantmaking, and racial justice, and design and make decisions on impactful grantmaking investments.
  • Strengthen and manage the entire grants process, including application intake, review, award, reporting, and close-out, ensuring due diligence and compliance.
  • Serve as the administrator of Submittable, managing the online application and reporting system, including building templates, intake of applications, and workflows. Support the team in designing and implementing new functionality in Submittable, create dashboards and reports for decision-making, and troubleshoot technical problems. 

*You do not need to know Submittable when entering the position, training will be available*

  • Create and maintain electronic grant files that meet legal, auditing, and internal requirements, ensuring data integrity.

 

Communications & External Engagement

 

  • Communications: Partner with the communications team to summarize program strategy, deliverables, and projected outcomes; ensure communications pieces properly frames the programmatic work of The Collective.
  • Community Engagement: Represent the organization at conferences, through speaking engagements, and community meetings. Incorporate community learnings into work ensuring the organization’s presence and influence in the broader field. 
  • Support Fundraising: Participate in fundraising and other events to promote the organization, develop relationships, and expand philanthropic support.

 

 

Qualifications

 

Success in this opportunity will require:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience in non-profit, business, program management, social services administration, or related area
  • Experience working with
    • Non-profit and/or social services organizations
    • Fundraising initiatives
    • Community engagement initiatives
  • 7+ years’ experience:
    • Managing Multiple projects including responsibility for planning, budgeting, scheduling, leading others, coordinating with vendors, tracking deliverables, allocating resources, and communicating results
    • Regularly interacting, communicating with, and presenting to executive sponsors, key stakeholders, change agents, groups and individuals representing communities of interest at all levels
    • Administering operational functions including staffing, systems, record keeping, reporting, compliance, and related areas
    • Leading or directly supporting organizational impact initiatives
  • Uses project management, PPT, Excel, word processing, and other computer applications at a proficient level
  • Writes and verbally communicates at an advanced level
  • Experience working constructively with people who have varying backgrounds,

perspectives, views, and beliefs

    • Non-profit and/or social services organizations in a leadership role

    • Community engagement initiatives
