Impact Investing Snapshot

By Susan Hammel, CFA

Led by the Twin Cities Host Committee, our community hosted the national US Social Investment Forum conference, typically held in Washington DC and Chicago in the off years. Several MCF members participated, including the McKnight Foundation, Northwest Area Foundation and several corporate members including General Mills, Allianz, Thrivent, and Ecolab.

The Urban Institute, a national think tank based in Washington D.C. highlighted our fund, the Minnesota Impact Investing Initiative “MI3,” as a best practice for deploying local capital in their national studies: “Place-Based Impact Investing Toolkits.”

MCF engaged the philanthropic community in the hot topic of the year “Opportunity Zone” conversation through a packed session at the annual MCF conference and an article in Giving Forum.
