Rural Funders Working Group Meeting: MN Rural Equity Project - Creating a Rural Agenda

Thursday, June 7, 2018
10:00am - 2:00pm CDT
Otto Bremer Trust, 30 E 7th St #2900, St. Paul, MN 55101

What is the collective agenda for achieving rural equity in Minnesota? Which public policy solutions are promising, and how do we come together as a state to achieve rural-urban equity? What role could philanthropy play in this work? The Rural Funders Working Group will be discussing these questions and more in its upcoming meeting that will feature a presentation about the MN Rural Equity Project by Jane Leonard, President of Growth & Justice.

The MN Rural Equity Project is an ambitious effort which started in early 2017 to shine a light on persistent socioeconomic and public investment gaps throughout rural and Greater Minnesota. Starting in June 2018, Growth & Justice along with is kicking off a six-month community engagement process with Minnesotans to create a comprehensive policy agenda for decision-makers -- the One Minnesota Equity Blueprint -- for achieving rural-urban and racial economic equity and inclusive growth. This blueprint is meant to serve as a roadmap for policy makers in Minnesota.

This meeting will inform and engage funders in a discussion on the topic of rural-urban equity and the concept of creating a collective rural equity agenda in Minnesota. The draft thinking that will shared by Growth & Justice may also provide ideas to the working group on future meeting topics and could serve as a potential connection point between the rural working group and MCF’s public policy work.

Lunch will be served at the meeting, generously provided by the Otto Bremer Trust.

The Rural Funders Working Group is focused on:

  • Engaging in peer learning and networking to develop relationships, knowledge, and best practices that support rural grantmaking
  • Raising awareness about rural issues among other grantmakers
  • Developing public policy and systems change reform recommendations that strengthen rural communities; providing a rural lens on MCF’s existing public policy work

This working group is for MCF members interested in rural issues. This is a MCF member-only meeting.
