Description: As philanthropy works to advance its charitable mission, the topics of diversity, inclusion, and equity play a central role for many of our organizations.  Much has been written and speculated about rural attitudes to these topics in the aftermath of the 2016 election.  This session will offer a discussion forum for rural funders to consider how to tailor their approach by focusing on the questions:

  •          What, if anything, does the election mean for philanthropy’s diversity, equity, and inclusion work in communities?
  •          What did we learn and how do we react to what we learned?
  •          How do we advance diversity, equity, and inclusion in rural communities?

To help frame the discussion and provide relevant insights, brief presentations are being planned from MCF staff on what rural Minnesota looks like in terms of the U.S. Census and perceptions of rural people of color from the Blandin Foundation Rural Pulse Survey.

The Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation has generously arranged to host our meeting at the Brainerd Lakes Chamber. Lunch will be served at the meeting; voluntary contributions to help cover the cost of lunch are appreciated. This is a MCF member-only meeting.
