Description: How can regional and statewide funders do rural grantmaking well? How can local funders tap into other local resources & bring outside resources into their communities? What are the opportunities and challenges when it comes to collaboration between local and regional/statewide funders? We’ll discuss all of these questions and more at September’s Rural Funders Working Group Meeting. This meeting is meant to bring local and regional/statewide funders together to discuss how they can do good rural grantmaking and improve coordination and collaboration with one another. To spark discussion, the meeting will start with presentations from both a local and a regional/statewide funder on how they think about these questions, and the presentations will be followed by small and large group discussions to further dig into this topic. Steve Joul from CommunityGiving and Lue Her and Tony LookingElk from the Otto Bremer Trust have graciously agreed to be the presenters for this meeting.
The Central Minnesota Community Foundation has generously arranged to host our meeting at Sandler Training in St. Cloud. Lunch will be served at the meeting; voluntary contributions to help cover the cost of lunch are encouraged.
The Rural Funders Working Group is focused on:
- Engaging in peer learning and networking to develop relationships, knowledge, and best practices that support rural grantmaking
- Raising awareness about rural issues among other grantmakers
- Developing public policy and systems change reform recommendations that strengthen rural communities; providing a rural lens on MCF’s existing public policy work
This working group is for MCF members interested in rural issues. This is a MCF member-only meeting.
