On a national and regional level, philanthropic and funding organizations are addressing/confronting/ interrogating inequity through activities ranging from anti-racism trainings to discussions of Edgar Villanueva’s Decolonizing Wealth to strategic planning with Boards of Directors to creating new mission statements with an expressed commitment to equity.  These efforts to move towards a more diverse, inclusive and equitable world surface new opportunities, as well as challenges, amidst the growing awareness of the field’s lack of diversity, inequitable funding practices, and exclusionary policies. How do we create internal organizational cultures that support equity, diversity and inclusivity?

Join the Minnesota Council on Foundations and members in an engaged conversation around developing equitable organizations and funding practices and policies.

Equitable Grantmaking: Making It Happen: While an increasing number of funding organizations have become committed to issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion, many of us struggle with how to approach these issues and create conditions for this work internally. This funder convening is an opportunity to share questions, challenges and practices around how we imbed equity in our organizations.  Staff from Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, Northwest Area Foundation, Headwaters Foundation for Justice, and the Racial Equity Funder Collaborative (Bush Foundation, Jerome Foundation, McKnight Foundation, Minnesota State Arts Board, Propel Nonprofits and Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundations) will share the actions they have taken toward operationalizing equity. These brief presentations will be followed by a long table conversation to share your actions, experiences and questions around equity work within your organization. Come ready to share and engage!

Consideration for convening future events to further explore areas of interest around developing equitable organizations and funding practices and policies will be based on the information that surfaces from this convening.
