With the pandemic forcing communities to physically distance, the impact on the arts was immediately felt. Events and gatherings, the lifeblood to Minnesota’s vibrant arts and culture community, were canceled leaving hundreds without work, income and insurance benefits. Seven months later and many organizations are still at risk of shuttering their doors for good. Sixty-nine percent of arts organizations in Minnesota reported significant disruption and expect recovery to be difficult (Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, July 2020).

Despite the hardships that have impacted the majority of artists, a recent national study reports that 76% of artists have used their artistic practice to raise morale, create community cohesion, or lighten the COVID-19 experience of their communities.

The state of the arts and culture Community will be presented by our panelists: Sue Gens, Executive Director, Minnesota State Arts Board; Arleta Little, Program Officer & Director of Artist Fellowships, McKnight Foundation; Eddies Torres, President & CEO, Grantmakers in the Arts; and Laura Zabel, Executive Director, Springboard for the Arts. Our host will be Ben Cameron, President, Jerome Foundation.
