Join MCF for a conversation about philanthropy’s role in reducing gun violence. Learn from the Joyce Foundation and the Minneapolis Foundation about how they have addressed gun violence prevention in their funding strategies, and from Dr. Jillian Peterson, nationally renowned expert on mass shootings and violence prevention. Presenters will explore various strategies including research, education, and policy solutions that seek to reduce gun violence through an evidence informed, public health approach, and make communities safer. Gun violence prevention, working in tandem with justice system reform and violence intervention can be powerful forces toward creating safe and just communities. 

Attendees will:

  • Gain understanding and clarify misperceptions about gun violence in Minnesota     
  • Learn about local and regional philanthropic strategies to reduce gun violence
  • Hear how gun violence prevention is impacting individuals and communities

Presenters:

The formal program will end at 11:30 a.m. Interested individuals are invited to stay until 12:00 p.m. for continued informal conversation with our presenters on the topics of gun violence prevention and Minnesota philanthropy.
