Description: Foundation governance is complex. While rewarding, it entails a high-level of responsibility and a clear understanding of the legal and financial policies and regulations of the foundation. In addition, it requires an understanding of and ability to engage in meaningful conversation around the community and the context in which the foundation works. Having the right tools and the right time can make a big difference.
We will cover these essentials for effective foundation governance:
- The basics of trustee fiduciary and legal responsibility
- How changes in impact investing are influencing the concept of trustee fiduciary responsibility
- How to explore the foundation’s mission progress while being sensitive to the scale, amount of investment and time of grantees
- How a foundation might reflect on and expand its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
- How to engage in partnerships and policy that may improve your foundation’s progress
In the course of two hours, we will cover a range of trustee-essential topics and provide you with a toolkit to use in your board service.
After the two hour training, we hope you’ll join us for a social from 4 to 5:30 p.m. to talk further with fellow trustees from other Minnesota-based foundations.
