MCF is now offering a series of CEO Chats with the presidents or senior leaders of Minnesota’s philanthropic organizations. Nonprofit staff and board members are invited to sign up for these free, virtual conversations.

During each CEO Chat, attendees will have an opportunity to meet the foundation leader, and learn about the foundation’s  priorities and strategic decisions. Participants will be encouraged to ask questions in this discussion facilitated by MCF President Susie Brown. We hope you’ll join us for candid conversation about many of the pressing issues and challenges facing Minnesota’s nonprofit and philanthropic sectors.

At their core, the Southwest Initiative Foundation is a regional champion and inclusive partner committed to prosperity for all southwest Minnesota kids and the communities they call home through our Grow Our Own initiative. The outcome of this work is the achievement of economic mobility: the collective ambition that all people attain a reasonable standard of living, with the dignity that comes from having power over their lives and being engaged in and valued by their community. Grants to support these efforts fall on a cradle to career continuum to support programs along the path.  

SWIF also works through their Community and Designated fund program to provide awards grants based on a refined focus of donors' intentions. Some awards are based on a specific community's needs and others, rather, on a field of interest. The team works to align grant award with the desires of the donors. 

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, SWIF has stepped up to support their communities through over 1,800 grants totaling over $8.5 million dollars in response and recovery efforts for the emergent needs and opportunities that have presented themselves. It is their goal through this work to build the strength and long-term sustainability of their region, rebuilding better.

  • Business Development
