The State of Minnesota needs to make an investment to prepare for a 2020 Census count that is tailor-made to make sure every single Minnesotan is counted, including those in historically undercounted communities.  We have a little over one month to secure $2.5 million in state funding to achieve a fully-inclusive and accurate count in Minnesota. (Read more about the proposal for state census funding and keep updated at MCF Policy in Focus or on FB.

While the legislature is on a holiday break, come to the Capitol to get the inside scoop about how to navigate the legislative process and the building. The Census Capitol Lab will give you tips on how to get information about the legislative process, attending committee hearings, meeting with legislators, working with legislative staff, media advocacy, organizing meetings and events at the Capitol, and where to get something to eat!  It's the insiders guide for grassroots and grasstops advocates who want to effective navigate the State Capitol complex as a "citizen lobbyist."

Census Capitol Lab is being led by seasoned State Capitol lobbyists Bob Tracy, MCF’s director of public policy and communication, and advocacy consultant Marcia Avner. Several state legislators will take a break from their holiday to share their insider’s perspectives about how to be effective at the Capitol, and your tours will be hosted by experienced nonprofit lobbyists.

Sure, we are gearing up for end-of-the-session push for census money, but our Capitol Lab training will be useful to any grantmaker or nonprofit community advocate looking to have an impact at the State Capitol.

An agenda for this event will be posted on April 12. If you have questions about the Census Capitol Lab contact MCF Public Policy by email or at 612.335.3558.

For census advocates who are not MCF members, if you have not already done so, you will need to set up an MCF account to register for this event.
