The Census will be on April 1, 2020. But, in many respects, the count is happening now. Decisions are being made that will affect whether or not Minnesota has a fully-inclusive, honest, and accurate count in 2020. The recent decision by the Secretary of Commerce recommending a citizenship question be added to the 2020 Census is but one example, and it certainly caught grantmakers’ attention as 350 funders jumped onto a recent national conference call offering an emergency briefing.

There’s more grantmakers can do.

At Census ABC’s for Minnesota Grantmakers you will learn about the importance of the census to Minnesota. This is an encore presentation of this popular workshop previously presented this past April.

You’ll get great ideas from Marcia Avner about how to engage communities through your grantmaking and community partnerships. Marcia is a member of the Bauman Foundation board of directors and co-chair of the Funders Committee for Civic Participation’s Funders Census Initiative advisory committee.

MCF’s public policy director, Bob Tracy, will show you how you can work through MCF to help prepare Minnesota for the 2020. The census is a MCF public policy priority. You can keep track of what’s happening on MCF’s web site through Policy in Focus. Also, MCF is leading organizing efforts in the state through the Minnesota Census Mobilization Partnership, including the Minnesota Grantmakers Census Roundtable.

If you’re a grantmaker who is interested in creating prosperity through inclusion and equity, seek to have an impact on education, health care, or low-income housing – areas that also require significant public investments, or you are interested in the state’s economic growth, then you should attend this program and get connected to what’s happening to prepare Minnesota for the 2020 Census.

Video conference participation is available for this event. Information about connecting through video conference will be included in your registration confirmation email. Please also email Brianna Kocka, Member Services Specialist, if you plan to attend via video.

For information, contact Bob Tracy, MCF's director of public policy (612.335.3558).

This event is supported by a grant from The Joyce Foundation.
