Ceding Control: Sharing Philanthropy’s Power for Equitable, Inclusive Relationships

Monday, November 23, 2020 12:30pm - 1:30pm CST

What does it mean to share – and cede – funders’ inherent power in philanthropy? How can we, as grantmakers, take stock of how well we’re nurturing transparent, trusting relationships with grant partners?

Join MCF members and our partners from the National Committee for Responsive Philanthropy for a webinar on the resource, Power Moves: Your essential philanthropy assessment guide for equity and justice.

During this webinar, NCRP will share an overview of the toolkit’s three components: Building Power; Sharing Power and Wielding Power. Plus, they will share one example of how to use the tool through the first section on Building Power: exercising public leadership beyond grantmaking to create equitable, catalytic change. The Power Moves framework represents the highest aspiration for grantmaking that advances equity and justice.

Following the presentation by NCRP, two Minnesota funders will share their ideas, initial practices and future hopes for how the Power Moves framework can advance greater equity in Minnesota. Attendees will walk away with an understanding of the toolkit and a connection to a Minnesota-focused peer network with which to advance equitable grantmaking.
