Description: Please join the Minnesota Council on Foundations and Generation Next for a presentation on education funding. Using a survey of grantmakers in Minneapolis and Saint Paul and data from MCF and the Foundation Center, we analyzed data in Minnesota with a special emphasis on the Minneapolis/Saint Paul metro area. Four key insights were revealed:

  • Significant concentration of resources means that alignment among key organizations is essential.
  • There is a clear opportunity to align grantmaking further to address urgent priorities around education equity.
  • More attention to grants data is needed to link grants to outcomes.
  • Historical funding precedents and other priorities mean fewer dollars are given toward equity goals.

The executive summary of the report is below.

Presenters: Kim Nelson, Senior Vice President of External Relations at General Mills, and R.T. Rybak, President & CEO of the Minneapolis Foundation and former Executive Director of Generation Next, will represent the Generation Next Funders’ Circle in presenting the report and highlighting the findings. Ample time will be allocated for questions and a discussion of implications.
