Advanced Proposal Review

Description: Reviewing and making grant decisions is both art and science. Ultimately, your foundation’s review process and communication practices will effect your relationship with the communities in which you hope to make positive impact.

Gather to speak with experienced grantmaking professionals from other foundations about learnings from their practice of inviting, reviewing and structuring grants for maximum impact. Panelists will include:

  • Carolyn Link, Executive Director, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota Foundation
    • Inviting external reviewers, aligning questions across the process touchpoints
  • Greg Keane, CFO, Bush Foundation
    • Financial Analysis red flags and common questions encountered while reviewing project budgets and organizational financials, understanding financials in context
  • Patrice Relerford, Director of Impact Strategy – Education, The Minneapolis Foundation
    • Having tough conversations as part of proposal review both internally and externally
  • Susan Voigt, Program Manager, Medica Foundation
    • Building in evaluation from the beginning

Following a brief panel, the panelists will be available for small group conversations. Participants will be welcome to move through three 20 minute conversations with the panelists, selecting the table(s) of most interest.
