Cooperating Collections
An excellent grantseeking resource is The Foundation Center Cooperating Collection nearest
you. These collections were established by
The Foundation Center, a nonprofit research and
publishing organization located in New York City. Each collection carries many of The
Foundation Center publications, which include several national directories of foundations.
Many collections can also do short computer searches for you through a connection to The
Foundation Centers database on CD-ROM (FC Search), and each has a specially trained
librarian assigned to help you.In Minnesota, there
are six Cooperating Collection locations:

The Cooperating Collections in Marshall, Minneapolis,
Rochester and St. Paul have available for public use the the latest release of
"FC
Search," The Foundation Center's database on CD-ROM. FC Search gives you access to the
Foundation Center's exclusive national database of foundation and corporate
grantmakers and their associated grants. You can choose from 21 search criteria to generate
lists of funding prospects. It is recommended that you call the collection in advance of a
visit to determine hours and availability of "FC Search."
The collections in Duluth, Marshall and Minneapolis also have
microfiche copies of the IRS Forms 990-PF for Minnesota foundations. 990-PFs are tax
returns that list all the gifts made by a foundation during the previous fiscal year.
990-PFs can be a particularly useful research tool to find out more about a foundation
that has no written guidelines or annual report.

Minneapolis Public
Library
The largest Foundation Center Cooperating Collection in Minnesota is in the
Sociology Department at the Minneapolis Public Library. Like all Cooperating Collections,
it has many of The Foundation Center publications. The Minneapolis collection also
includes:

including sample proposals
